VoIP... is it worth it?
I decided to ditch AT&T as my phone provider because it is just WAY TO EXPENSIVE. I wanted to use this new VoIP service called SunRocket. About 2 months ago I signed up and they gave me a temporary number (after a brief trail to see if the srevice worked I was planning to port my existing number). The service worked great and I decided to go ahead and have my AT&T number ported to sunrocket. here in lie some issues, I have AT&T DSL on my AT&T number. Problem? Nope. AT&T offers a "dry line DSL service" so you no longer have to use at&t(SBC) as your carrier to have at&t high speed. Well Sunrocket was supposed to e-mail me and let me know when the number would be ported so I could call at&t and set up the dry line service. Guess what, that did not happen and they ported the number yesterday. That means that I have no DSL service and no phone service as well (because the VoIP needs internet to function) ARGHHHH! but Sunrocket has a free call forwarding feature, so stole a wireless connection that I receieve in my back yard and logged onto SunRocket. I set up the call forwarding so that all calls that come into my home number will ring at my office line. and guess what, ITS NOT WORKING!
AT&T said it will take 1 week to set up the dry line service and SunRocket has sent my trouble ticket to "2nd teir" to get the call forwarding issue resolved...
If and when this ever works right I expect oodles of awesome phone service with tons of free features as well as free long distance for about $17/month! much better than the $50-70/month for my AT&T bill. lets keep our collective fingers crossed.
